We are delighted to be able to annouce that Professor Sir Bob Burgess has agreed to take on the role of Chair of the GSM London Board.
Professor Burgess is one of the highest-profile and most respected figures in UK Higher Education. He was previously Vice Chancellor of the University of Leicester, a post he held for 15 years until September 2014. Under his leadership it blossomed into a leading UK University, with a reputation for putting the student experience at the forefront of all it does. Awarded Times Higher University of the Year in 2008, the judges described Leicester as "elite without being elitist." This academic reputation was built encompassing a long-standing commitment to providing fairer and equal access to Higher Education.
In addition to his role at Leicester, Professor Burgess has had one of the most distinguished careers in the HE sector. He was Chair of the Higher Education Academy, the UUK/Guild HE Teacher Education Advisory Group and a member of the UCEA Board. He was awarded a Knighthood in 2010 for services to Higher Education locally and nationally.
