The Business

We have a fully capable and qualified team that guides clients through the entire step by step spectrum of media intensive projects from development to delivery.

With a consistent audience of more than 22,000 subscribers, we have provided our clients with a staggering 22 million viewers. We strive to work within a variety of budgets to produce creative content that pays for itself. Our team has helped our clients reach worldwide audiences by means of getting their brands into cinema and online, alongside creating web television content across Europe and Africa.

The inspiration

I have over 13 years of experience working in film and television as a film and television producer. I initially started creating videos outside of work as a hobby in January 2011. I was teaching Film at the time and so I thought it would be useful to participate in projects I set for my students. So I bought a DSLR and started making short projects with friends and family. By September 2011, I had started to get a lot of traffic online to my YouTube channel and so I started to group my work under the brand U Media Films. I soon registered the name as a company and continued to develop over the years. The company is now called Press Arena and is so much different from where U Media Films was just a few years ago.

The motivation

Balancing work, life and study is easy because every day I learn something which is valuable to my company. I am constantly taking notes on two screens – one for university work and one for Press Arena. When I finish work, I am a mum to my 13 year old son, who is now following in my digital footsteps.

How studying at GSM London helped the business grow?

Since starting at GSM London, I have learned so much about the business side of running a creative company and I have had the opportunity to implement it on a day-to-day basis. The key modules for me have been Logistics, Business Management, Business Law, and Innovation and Risk Management – they helped me to reshape the company into what it is now.

During my Logistics module, we were tasked to discuss the e-business and e-commerce aspects of a company. I chose to use my company as this was an aspect of it that I had been struggling to pin down. Answering the coursework question with my own company as an example really opened my eyes to the opportunities that I was losing out on by not having an e-commerce function attached to the company’s online presence.

The thinking process I went through to complete the task was very new to me and I found my lecturers to be amazingly supportive. It’s difficult as an entrepreneur to go through all the vital thinking sessions required to develop and grow a business without the expertise of people who really understand the topic and problem at hand. Luckily for me, my lecturers have been great at explaining the things I needed to understand because they have had experience of working with start-ups in one way or another.
