Looking after your mental health during exam time

Exam period is understandably an intense and gruelling time for thousands of students across the UK and one that can take its toll in terms of stress and anxiety. Maintaining your wellbeing during this period is of course crucial, but this can be easier said than done as your crucial examinations edge ever closer.

In addition to our GSM London Wellbeing Team, there is a range of ways you can promote wellbeing during this time, not least by taking advantage of Mental Health Awareness Week, which takes place this May.

In the latest feature here at GSM London, we take a look at how you can utilise these to help look after your mental health during exam time, and ensure you come out of this period feeling happy and positive.

Mental Health Awareness Week

When it comes to mental health, the exam period can be a very common trigger and much like our wellbeing team, events such as Mental Health Awareness Week have been created to help students feeling the pressure.

This superb event takes place between the 13th and 19th May, is run by the Mental Health Foundation and is not just for individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions. Mental health can present itself in a number of ways and can often be exacerbated by periods of stress, exam season is a prime example of this.

Therefore, should you find you aren’t feeling yourself, there are all sorts of resources available to you that could well help to relieve some pressure.

Mental Health Awareness Week has been going since 2001 and has helped thousands of people across the UK with issues such as stress, loneliness, friendship and substance abuse.

This year’s event is focussed on body image, which has grown in its severity in recent years, but you can take advantage of this fantastic support network, no matter what you are feeling. Take a look at some more of their resources at their site or download their supporter pack here.
