Academic research workshop

Great results in an academic environment are achieved by great research. However, being faced with a plethora of information and sources can be daunting. The Library and Information Services at GSM London recognise this and have designed a series of workshops to ensure that student’s get the most from the resources on offer. The workshops include: How to Find Good Information, How to find Academic Information and How to find Company and Industry Information.

Bijoya Sen Gupta said: ‘Finding good academic information is a skill. We guide students through the process from the beginning – introducing them to online resources and internet sites such as Google Scholar – through to sourcing specialist academic content such as e-journals using the EBSCO and Emerald databases.

‘Attending these workshops help students to develop the skills necessary to find the relevant information for coursework, projects and dissertations.’

Business research workshop

Good business research is a necessary skill for your degree, in the workplace and for those planning to set up a business. Whether it be finding industry data or sourcing company reports, accurate, up-to-date information is vital. The Library and Information Services at GSM London recognise this and have designed a series of workshops to ensure that students get the most from the resources on offer. The workshops include: How to Find Good Information, How to find Academic Information and How to find Company and Industry Information.

Bijoya Sen Gupta said: ‘The ability to source company and industry information is highly valued in the workplace. We support students from the beginning of their studies and provide them with the research skills business requires. This means that not only do students leave GSM London with their chosen qualification, they are also equipped with transferable research skills and knowledge of commercial databases such as MINTEL and Fame .’

Keeping ahead with social media

Information moves fast these days and keeping up with the latest research and thought leadership in your chosen field can be difficult. To ensure that our students have up-to-the minute-information, the Library and Information Service has turned to social media. Students can now join the GSM Libraries Facebook page and follow a Twitter account run by professional librarians who keep students informed of the latest developments in their specialist area.
