If you’re confused by the sheer number of degrees out there and struggling to narrow it down, a business management degree might just be the course you’re looking for. Not only are business management courses highly respected they also open doors for you in many different industries because of their broad nature.
Tawa Edwards, a business management lecturer at GSM London, says:
Business management will allow you to be creative and experience what it is to manage, to lead and to operate in whatever industry you choose to.
Why should I study business management?
A business management course is a mixture of theory and practice, and with GSM London enjoying strong links with businesses around the world, it means you’ll benefit from diverse, high calibre teaching staff and experts as well as learn the latest cutting-edge practices.
You’ll also deal with a lot of case studies which is a good thing – you’ll be able to see how the principles you learn can be applied in practice and will be able to use them in real-life situations after you graduate.
The world is a small place these days and we’re more connected than ever before but a business management degree will give you an international perspective. The diverse cohort of students that GSM London takes in each year adds to the international flavour.
And if that’s still not enough to convince you, employability when you graduate from business management is high as you’ll have plenty of transferable skills which are advantageous in many industries – presenting, communication, numeracy and problem-solving skills are all sought after in business roles.
What courses are on offer?
Another great thing about a business management course is the sheer diversity in the type of course you can study. At GSM London there are three different degrees available which, although they equip with the same core skills, they offer training in other areas.
A BSc (Hons) Business Management degree gives you the skills you need to work in a huge range of industries or to even start your own business. You’ll learn everything from human resource management and supply chain logistics to strategic management and change as well as risk management.
There is an opportunity for an industry placement and upon graduation you’ll be comfortable working in many different corporate roles. Lots of our past students work in investment banking, operations and logistics, risk management, marketing and sales or HR and account management.
But if you want to combine creativity with business, a BSc (Hons) Business Management with Creative Industries is also a fantastic option. It equips you with all the skills of a standard business management degree but with a special focus on the creative industries such as TV, gaming, film and tech. On this degree you’ll learn a host of business management skills but be able to apply them to business within this growing sector.
A BSc (Hons) Business Management with E-commerce is another great option if you want to focus on online selling. It’s a skill that is becoming increasingly important within business in general as more and more companies sell their products or services through online portals. A degree with this element attached will give you a head start when it comes to finding work in the digital age.
Do I need A-Levels to apply?
You’ll need two A Levels and a total of 32 UCAS points or you’ll need to have completed GSM London’s Foundation Year programme with a minimum of 120 credits. Alternative qualifications are accepted including; BTEC National Diploma, Advanced Level Diploma, HND/C, International Baccalaureat and Irish/Scottish Highers/Advanced.
A foundation year can be a great option if you have had a break from academic study because it prepares you for degree study.
If you don’t have the right qualifications however, you can still apply if you have at least a year’s full-time work experience, a stamped and dated reference and you undergo certain interviews and written assignments. The admissions team just need to make sure you have the capability and the motivation for the course.
