So, for most of us, being a student is tough financially… If you are anything like me, finding discounts and FREEBIES is always a plus!
I have researched and scoured the web to bring you my Guide to Discounts & Freebies for us students which I hope you will not only find interesting but also useful!!
One of the first app’s I downloaded upon enrolling onto my degree was ‘UniDays’; This app was introduced to me by a fellow student and it has compiled many current discounts with numerous companies. Joining ‘UniDays’ is not only simple but FREE and just involves creating an account with them, once you have done this you can take full advantage of all the amazing discounts, most of which include popular high street shops. Here is a list of the likely types of discounts you can find: –
- Discounts to your favourite food (restaurants/takeaways)
- Discounts for clothes & products (online/high street)
- Discounts for gym memberships (can’t say this is one I have ever used but hey! It’s there if you want it!)
- Discounts for tech (Laptop’s etc)
Overall, I would say ‘UniDays’ is a good one to use and it makes discount hunting easy, as they have already found them for you! Find it in your app store or on their website www.myunidays.com
The next thing I want to talk about is the NUS Extra Card, there is a cost from £12 a year for this but with exclusive student discounts of up to £500 a year it’s a small investment for potentially quite a good return. Discounts with this card include numerous entertainment, travel and food offers with various companies.
There is also a card called ISIC which is an international student identity card available in 130 countries. Many stores within the UK that offer students discounts accept this card as a valid form of student ID. As with the NUS Extra Card there is a fee of £12 a year which has the optional choice to renew each year. Listed below is several high street stores that already offer students discounts providing they have valid ID: –
- French Connection
- New Look
- Urban Outfitters
- ASOS (online)
- Boohoo (online)
All the above offer 10% off purchases all year round and some occasionally even offer 20%!
Now if you like adventures or fun days out, Student Beans is a website offering reduced student tickets to places like Alton Towers as well as discounts for many food, clothing and tech shops/companies. They also offer a FREE digital student card which can be used in stores and online. For more information or to sign up, visit their website www.studentbeans.com
I also found that the Odeon and Cineworld Cinema’s offer reduced film tickets, so they are worth checking out and enjoying films for a fraction of the price!
For any new or existing Spotify users they offer 50% off their premium subscription through ‘UniDays’ and The Guardian offers up to 80% off their digital subscriptions. The website www.studentmoneysaver.co.uk also advertises amazing FREEBIES which you can just apply for, the freebies change quite frequently and granted some are better than others but even so they are FREE so you have nothing to lose! Go! Go! Go!
Overall, I have found that there are many more discounts available to students than I had first imagined and some of them really are beneficial!! For full lists of shops and companies that offer discounts and perks for students I found these websites particularly useful: –
