This February was designated as Diversity Month and the GSM London Careers & Employability team have been working hard to organise a range of activities for YOU to celebrate.
On Friday 17th The Students Union worked with Career & Employability to deliver an event at our Greenford campus’ left wing. A group Jumu’ah was held, which is a congregational prayer that Muslims hold every Friday, led by a GSM London student. This was a great opportunity for those interested in learning about Islam. We encouraged everyone to take part in praying together or observing quietly from the back, from students to staff. Respectfully, headscarves were provided for any women who wished to take part.
We didn’t stop there!
During the afternoon the Students Union hosted a Diversity Marketplace in the Atrium. It was filled with music, food and drink and a chance to meet and engage with some of the diverse faith and culture societies at GSM London.
If you missed the opportunity to take part last week then be sure to attend the second event on Friday 24th February at our Greenwich campus. Unfortunately, we won’t be having the call to prayer, but there will be an opportunity to mix with your peers and staff to discuss and celebrate various cultures. All staff and students are invited to wear something traditional, to bring in a national flag and/or to bring in a song or music that they feel represents something from their culture/heritage.
