A few great places in London to get in shape

In London, getting in shape and adopting a healthier lifestyle doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be great fun. As anyone who has visited the city would expect, the capital offers the best and most exciting range of gyms and leisure centres in the country which can really help to take the pain out of gain.

Below are a few of the spots we think are worth a visit if you’ve recently turned over a new leaf and are looking to get truly fit for the first time, or if you have just moved to start studying at our London business university and want to continue your existing exercise regime.

Gymbox – the healthiest of nights out

There are a few different branches of Gymbox scattered throughout the centre of London – including sites at Covent Garden, Farringdon and Bank – but our favourite is in Holborn.

The idea behind Gymbox is to make staying healthy as much like going on a night out as possible, with resident DJs and disco lights providing an intense, unique atmosphere which creates a treat out of going to the gym.

A giant movie screen and classes including Electric Hoop and Balates (neon hula-hooping and a ballet-pilates hybrid respectively) should give you an idea of the kind of thing Gymbox specialises in, and there is also a fantastic boxing ring which has introduced many female members in particular to the sport.

Queen Mother Sports Centre – dive into fitness

If swimming is your thing, then the Queen Mother Sports Centre in Victoria is undoubtedly one of the best places in the capital for taking a dip.

An impressive 25-metre pool is the QM’s centrepiece, but there is a variety of smaller training and leisure pools to choose from too, as well as a host of other relaxing and invigorating activities; an excellent sporting-social spot, the main hall facilitating all kinds of sports is augmented by a massive cardiovascular suite and two fitness studios that between them boast over 50 classes every week.

Unusually, the centre is also shared by the independent Cobra Gym, which for upwards of two decades is where kickboxing supremo Tim Izli has been imparting his vast knowledge to pupils spanning every level of experience and ability.

Reebok Sports Club – sleek, stylish and sporty

It doesn’t matter whether you’re attending GSM London for accounting, business or computer science tuition – we believe that each of our students deserves unequivocal access to the most well-balanced of lifestyles, leading to a healthy body that will in turn nourish a healthy mind.

The Reebok Sports Club in Canary Wharf offers such a wide range of activities that everyone who tries their cutting-edge facilities out should be able to find something that will suit their interests, ensuring that all visitors will truly enjoy the intense workouts provided.

All sorts of wellbeing-boosting interests are catered for, from climbing and ballroom dancing to indoor football and even scuba diving! The Reebok site makes use of the latest technology to facilitate amazing classes like virtual golf, whilst a top quality spa complex and Weight Watchers centre are among the numerous other highlights available.
