Great story telling comes through knowledge

Garvin Matthews

It’s funny how life can steer you in different directions, and I can attest to that. For me, I have gone from being a policeman in the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to joining the British army; what a cultural transition that was? It didn’t end there for me either; I wanted to not only get a higher education studying Business management with a travel and tourism (pathway), I wanted to do something to inspire other people: like president Obama, Martin Luther King Jr, well – maybe not as great as them. I have decided to use what I’ve learnt to write a book, called Naomi. This book will give you a glimpse of what went on behind the smiles and doors of Naomi’s life.

A life that has been ravaged by: neglect, abuse and lies. This book also demonstrates to us as adults that we are accountable for the disastrous upbringing of our children, and we have a massive part to play in the decisions they make when they become adults. I can’t take all the credit for this book; I owe most of it to Naomi for allowing me to share her story with the world. Before I started writing this book, I had to learn how to write, and I can tell you, I got it wrong on many occasions. But that’s part of learning, getting it wrong and being determined to keep going, no matter what obstacles get in your way. I believe that learning is a beautiful thing, like watching the beauty that unravels during spring time, isn’t it just remarkable to see, and that’s knowledge feels to me.

Sometimes, I feel like I’ve overshot my expectation in life, but without a dream, who are we? Maybe I have too much of an over-active imagination, but I dream of being very successful; get the job that comes with the high salary after I get my degree; travel the world; have the big house with a gate and swimming pool – I know right, it may not come true, but I plan to keep going, keeping pressing forwards until I get my dream. Finally, there is one thing you can expect in life is to encounter many obstacles, challenges and problems that may throw you off track, but if you want to get your dream as much as you want to breathe, you can achieve anything.
