Our first event for the winners of GSM London’s Horizon Award was a celebration of what makes our students special.
On Wednesday 16 November, GSM London staff and students joined employers at the prestigious Goldsmiths Centre to celebrate the achievements of our Horizon Award-winning students. The event was a huge success, with over 70 people coming together to network, share ideas and learn from one another. Thanks to four months of hard work and planning by the Careers team, the event was a fantastic opportunity for the College – and our students – to make new friends and establish connections with the employers in attendance.
The focus of the event was diversity. It gave GSM London a platform to showcase our distinctiveness as an institution, as well as what makes our students unique. Our strengths-led approach to education is all about recognising and realising the value of our own distinctiveness. These principles were well represented by a panel of excellent external speakers. Alongside our own Debi Hayes, Christy Traore and Bob Athwal, we heard from:
Liz Grant OBE, Director at Fantail Business Development, on why workplace diversity and inclusion should be celebrated and the pride we should all feel in being our true selves in the workplace.
Morgan Lobb, CEO of Diversity Jobs, on the business imperative of diverse and inclusive workplace in a digital age.
The event also heard from our student Marie Tavernier about her own fascinating story, and how the experience with GSM London is empowering her to take her career in new directions that reflect her own distinctiveness. Most importantly, the event saw each of our Horizon Award achievers receive their award. They have worked extremely hard and it was wonderful to have such an opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve.
We invite you all as readers to help us to once again congratulate the award winners – listed below, and reiterate the importance of such achievements which are a representation of the hard work and determination of GSM London students.
