Learning access and wellbeing

Before you start:

Starting a higher education course can be an exciting time; it can also be a stressful time with additional work loads and competing demands including work, family and study.

If you feel at any point that you would benefit from additional support it is important to seek advice and help at an early stage.  The Wellbeing Team can give you advice and support on a range of issues.

The Wellbeing Team are the first point of contact if you have:

• a physical, mental or social disability

• health concerns

• any specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia

• a personal issue or circumstance which may affect your studies

If you would like to speak to someone about any of these issues and how they could impact on your studies please let us know and we will put you in touch with the relevant person. We want to help you to ensure that you are in the best position possible to achieve your potential when you start at GSM.

We have relationships with support organisations external to GSM including counselling, study skills, debt advice and health. So if we are unable to assist on campus we will always try to point you in the right direction.

Dyslexia & Dyspraxia Support

Wellbeing can offer support and guidance through the process of diagnosis and applying for appropriate external funding and support. GSM has a longstanding relationship with the DSA and can help you understand your options for support during normal lectures and even exams.

While you are studying:

If you feel you have an issue that might affect your studies, such as a physical, social or mental disability, health concern or specific learning difficulty, or you require additional support to study, you may wish to register with Wellbeing. Please visit the Wellbeing office and bring with you a piece of medical evidence (original copy) to support your requirements. This could be in the form of a doctor’s letter, for example.  We can then discuss the best ways to support you during your studies.
